Keith Frank Amaral, 81, of Volcano, died July 30. He was retired from the University of Hawaii’s 88-inch telescope on Mauna Kea. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Mountain View. Mass at 10 a.m. Urn committal to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Adelo Carbonero, Jr., 70, of Keaau died Sept. 28 at Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Cebu City, Philippines. No services. Survived by sisters, Maria (Anthony) Kubera and Carol (Johnson) Kalawe of Pahoa; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Setsuyo Fujino, 89 of Captain Cook died Sept. 2 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Captain Cook, she was a retired macadamia nut farmer, worked at Kona Community Federal Credit Union and Kona Medical Associates and was a member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Akitsu Kumiai. Visitation 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Survived by daughters, Gina (Brian) Yasuda of Mililani, Oahu, and Dara (Aaron) Uemura of Captain Cook; sisters, Suemi (James) Sakumoto of Keeau and Yoshie Tatami of Aiea, Oahu; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The Rev. Billie Pualani Keawekane-Beere, 76, of Hilo died Sept. 4 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was kahu kihapai of the ‘Ekalesia ‘o Ka ‘Uhane Hemolele o ka Malamalama – Ho‘omana o ke Akua Ola, a member of Ahahui o na Makuahine, former director of Keaukaha Pana‘ewa Farmers Association, site coordinator, Elderly Services manager and Multiservices program director of Alu Like and community service worker for County of Hawaii Elderly Activities Division. Visitation 3-4 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 18) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 4 p.m. Cremation to follow. Aloha or casual attire. Kazumasa Okamoto, 94, of Keaau died Sept. 9 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Laupahoehoe, he was the retired postmaster of the Volcano Post Office and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Volcano Lions Club and Boy Scouts of America. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Puna Hongwanji Mission, 16-492 Volcano Rd. in Keaau. Memorial service at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment to follow at Puna Hongwanji Columbarium. Evan “Rick” Whittington, 77, of Volcano died Aug. 27 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio he was a counselor for Konawaena and Pahoa high schools. Services 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Volcano Art Center Niaulani Campus, 19-4074 Old Volcano Rd. in Volcano.
