Dr. Ruth Sachie Matsuura, 96, of Mountain View, died Sept. 21. Born in Hanford, Calif., she was a pediatrician, widow of the late state Sen. Richard Matsuura, member of Puna Baptist Church, graduate of University of California at San Francisco Medical School, completed a Pediatric Fellowship at the University of Minnesota and was a missionary in India. Services pending. Survived by daughters, Marlene (Alan) Tamashiro and Caroline “Kui” Wong of Hilo; sons, Dr. Peter (Wendy) Matsuura and Stephen (Luanne) Matsuura of Hilo and Andrew (Sonya) Matsuura of Mountain View; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Matsuura of Mineola, Texas; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Kazuko “Kay” Shimasaki, 96, of Keaau died Sept. 17 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Ka‘u, she was a retired bookkeeper. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 4) at Puna Covenant Church in Keaau. Celebration of life at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Calvin Shimasaki of Keaau and Russell Shimasaki of Hilo; sisters, Dorothy Quantes of Tennessee and Aiko (Rayford) Squires of Florida; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Deanna Keleka Spain, 50, of Keaau died July 3 on Oahu. Born in Honolulu, she taught at Waiakea Elementary School in Hilo and Kamaile Elementary School in Waianae, Oahu, graduated from St. Andrew’s Priory in 1992, earned Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Hawaii in 1996 and was a member of Hawaii State Teachers Association. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 4) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no loose flowers, lei welcome. Hapaki Aiu “Paki” Teixeira, 34, of Mountain View died Aug. 11 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Born in Honolulu he was a farrier, carpenter and welder. Visitation 10 a.m.-noon Saturday (Oct. 4) at Reel Church, 21 Kalanianaole St. in Hilo. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Luncheon and gathering to follow at Panaewa Equestrian Center. Leslie Sueki Wachi, 82, of Hilo died Aug. 28 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center.
