UH-H soccer welcomes 27 new Vulcans

HILO — Hawaii Hilo women’s soccer once again welcomes 16 newcomers as the Vulcans get ready to begin head coach Gene Okamura’s 10th season at the helm.

The 16 newcomers matches the same number from last fall’s incoming class, both of which are the largest during Okamura’s 10-season reign.

“We’re excited to welcome this incoming group to our program,” Okamura said. “We look forward to seeing their growth as we get back to work in the coming weeks.”

The Vulcans finished runner-up in last season’s inaugural Pacific West Conference Championships postseason tournament while notching the program’s first NCAA postseason win with a victory in the NCAA West Regional First Round.

First training sessions begin Aug. 18 with two and a half weeks before the Vulcans season opener at home against Chico State on Sept. 5.

Hawaii Hilo men’s soccer welcomes 11 new additions as the Vulcans enter Diego Marroquin’s third season as head coach.

“We are extremely excited to welcome our 2025 recruiting class to the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii,” Marroquin said. “Our program has tremendous pride in representing our University and our staff puts a premium on the recruitment process. The Student-Athletes we welcome here will all bring a different and unique dynamic to our team and possess a commonality in mentality. Our program is excited for the future and believe these new additions will energize our group and help take the program to new levels.”

The Vulcans qualified for last season’s inaugural Pacific West Conference Championships postseason tournament and exited in the first round after a tough double-overtime defeat to eventual tournament champion Westmont.
