HI-PAL hosts community boxing event: Alvarado, Lee and Ah Chong recognized

Hawaii Police Department’s South Kohala Community Policing Section and the Hawaii Police Activities League (HI-PAL) extend their sincere appreciation to the community, boxing clubs, and partners who supported the South Kohala Youth Boxing event held on Saturday, July 19, at the Thelma Parker Gymnasium in Waimea.

The event brought together young athletes, families, and supporters for an afternoon of friendly competition and positive engagement. Boys and girls age 12 to 17 stepped into the ring to represent their communities. in eight different bouts. The event featured eight exciting bouts culminating in two standout honors:

• “Fight of the Night” winners Skylar Alvarado and Isaiah Lee were recognized as the most exciting and competitive match-up.

• “Fighter of the Night” was awarded to Daycen Ah Chong, the boxer who demonstrated exceptional technique, heart, and determination.

A special mahalo goes to Be On the Look Out Promotions, Hawai‘i International Boxing Club, D.A.R.E. Hawaii and Waimea School for making the Thelma Parker Gymnasium available for the event. The department also thanks the USA Boxing Officials for generously volunteering their time and expertise.

Events like these strengthen community bonds, promote healthy activities for youth and build positive relationships between young people and law enforcement. The South Kohala Community Policing Section and HI-PAL look forward to hosting more youth-focused events in the near future.
