Team had a great experience in Hilo
The Mission San Jose High School Baseball team is deeply grateful to Hilo High School for the opportunity to participate in the 30th annual Stanley Costales Baseball Tournament.
This experience was more than just about baseball — it was a chance for not only our players, but also the coaches and our traveling party to grow, learn and connect with the incredible Big Island community.
A special mahalo to Waiakea High’s welcoming party, Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, Kandi’s Drive Inn, Big Island Candies, Hui Okinawa, Hilo High School Baseball Boosters, Hilo Ice Shave, Sluggers and, of course, the Brewahs.
Your generosity and hospitality made this journey truly unforgettable.
This trip exemplified the true meaning of the aloha spirit — bringing people together, fostering connections, and creating lasting memories.
As one of our coaches put it, “Baseball was the theme, but the love and care of the people was unbelievable. A parent also shared, “An amazing experience for all — the hospitality was incredible.”
You all were great ambassadors for the Big Island and our state.

Please bring back E.K. Fernandez fair
The E.K. Fernandez fair happens frequently on Oahu. But, alas, it hasn’t come to Hilo for many years to where it first originated.
My children, grandchildren and I looked forward to it every year, and I’m sure many other families would enjoy it coming back to Hilo.
Maybe Mayor Kimo Alameda could check into this and help make it happen.
We need more fun things to do in our area.

Kudos to reporter for protest coverage
Excellent coverage of the Presidents Day protest in Hilo.
I always appreciate John Burnett’s writing, but this deserves extra kudos for style, fairness, meaningful interviews with protesters, and the opening and the close (so neatly wrapped, I could put a burger and some lettuce in it!)
