During the week of Aug. 12-18, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for DUI. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, eight; Hilo and Puna, six each.
So far this year, there have been 614 DUI arrests compared to 617 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.49%.
There have been 621 major traffic collisions so far this year, compared to 536 during the same time last year, an increase of 15.9%.
To date, there have been 21 official traffic fatalities this year, compared to 11 fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 90.9%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
