Bernard Paul K. Haena Sr., 80, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 3 in Palo Alto, Calif. Born in Hilo, he was a retired mechanic for American Airlines in San Francisco and U.S. Navy veteran. Graveside service and burial 11 a.m. Wednesday (March 27) at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Sonia; sons, Bernard Jr. and Brian; daughter-in-law, Karen; siblings, Calvin Haena and Josephine Galang; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Clara Uechi, 94, of Captain Cook died March 9 at Captain Cook Care Home. Born in Honaunau, she was a retired public schools cafeteria manager, working at Hookena and Napoopoo schools on Hawaii Island, Holomua School on Molokai and Pearl Harbor Intermediate School on Oahu, and a Konawaena High School Class of 1947 alumna who loved to sing, play tennis and bowl in several leagues, and member and choir director of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Memorial service and celebration of life 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9 at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua. Survived by children, Barbara (Steve McGee) Uechi of Kona, Melvin (Sharon) Uechi of Las Vegas, Lester (Gill Eklof) Uechi of San Francisco and Jason (Heidi) Uechi of Montclair, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
