Geraldine “Gerri” Ann Carreira, 77, of Hilo died Feb. 29 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, Hawaii. She was a childcare provider and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 8:30-9:10 a.m. Friday (March 22) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial 11:30 a.m. at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Casual attire. Survived by son, Darren (Tina) Carreira of Temecula, Calif.; daughters, Renee (Alton) Pulgados of Keaau and Denise Carreira of Hilo; sister, June (Richard) Ha of Hilo; brother, Carl (Terry) Perreira of Hilo; brother-in-law, Dennis Carreira of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Sharon Luiz of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Kathleen (Paul) Goo of Honolulu; four grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Yoneichi “Yone” “Rusty” Nakamura, 94, of Waimea died Feb. 6. Born in Holualoa, he was a retired semi-truck driver/mechanic/heavy equipment operator for Parker Ranch, self-employed courier, painter and landscaper and worked for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., Kamuela Vacuum Cooling plant and several construction firms. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday (March 23) at Imiola Church in Waimea. Service at 11 a.m. Fellowship and lunch to follow. Survived by daughters, Betsy (Neil Apana) Nakamura and Yonette Nakamura of Waimea; hanai son, Troy Familar of Waimea; brothers, Charles (Sylvia) Matsuda of Pearl City, Oahu, Albert (Patty) Santiago of Kohala and Raphael (Shirley) Rodrigues of Grass Valley, Calif.; sisters, Jane Kakazu of Kaneohe, Oahu, Irene Daikoku of Kailua, Oahu, Betty (Richard) Yamashita of Honolulu, Nancy Owen of Wahiawa, Oahu, Angeline Sarte of Vista, Calif., Alberta Gouveia of Kaneohe and Linda (Kenny) Chesterfield Kihei, Maui; stepmother, Florence Santiago Kihei; brother-in-law, Ken Martell of Kealakekua; a grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins. Phillip William Neal, 80, of Hilo died Feb. 13 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Honolulu Fire Department firefighter engineer, federal firefighter on Wake Island, worked for Aloha Airlines Cargo, was a pa‘u rider and U.S. Army veteran. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday (March 22) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 6 p.m. No flowers; aloha attire. Visitation and service again 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday (March 23) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Waimea. Committal services and burial 1:15 p.m. at Brighter Family Estate next to the church. Flowers optional. Luncheon 2 p.m. at Brighter Family Estate. Survived by wife, Bonnie; daughters, Shawn Neal, Malia (Harrison) Anzai, Olana Neal-Kanamu and Luana (Leonard Jr.) Asano; brother, John (Sharlene) Neal; sisters, Annette Pagay and Irene Neal; 15 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Elizabeth Enriquez Konanui, 92, of Sumter, S.C., formerly of Pahoa, died Dec. 26, 2022, at home. She was born in Mokuhulu, Kalapana. Visitation 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday (March 23) at Pahoa Sacred Heart Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Inurnment to follow at church cemetery. Casual attire. Francis “Bo” Saiki, 79, of Hilo died March 2 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired zoning inspector for the county Planning Department, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Big Island Sports Hall of Fame and Kats Athletic Club, former head coach for Waiakea and Keaau high schools girls softball, coach for Keaukaha Pony, Colt, Babe Ruth, Big League, AJA and St. Joseph High School baseball teams and Hawaii Army National Guard veteran. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday (March 26) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Service at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Amelia “Millie” Saiki of Hilo; daughters, Cori Saiki and Kaycie Saiki of Hilo; sisters, Luana Kawelu and Leinani Andrade of Hilo; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
