Reginald Franklin Gomes, 85, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 18 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a pipe fitter, for Royal Construction, Kiewit Pacific, Goodfellow Brothers and Isemoto Contractors, member of Hawaii Laborers Union, NRA, Kona Horseshoe Pitchers Club and St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and Hawaii Army National Guard veteran. Visitation 9:15-10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Survived by sons, Stanley Gomes and Benjamin Palani (Robyn Scott) Gomes of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Wendy (Michael) Martinez of Kapaa, Kauai, Linda (James) Taketa and Cindy (Stanford) Santiago of Kailua-Kona; brother, Roland Gomes of Nevada; sister, Joshlyn LaBarr of Oregon; sisters-in-law, Gloria Gomes and Mary Gomes of California; 11 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Kazue K. Kaya, 88, of Hilo died Dec. 25 at home. Born in Mountain View, she was a retired tour guide for the former Orchids of Hawaii and Kinipono Creations. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sons, Michael (Yoko) Kuriki of Torrance, Calif., Lawton (Jill) Kaya and Sherwood Kaya of Oahu; sister, Suyako Matsubara of Hilo; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Samuel “Sam” “Sammy Boy” Sabino Mwarey, 16, of Hilo Jan. 8 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a student at Hilo High School, member of Hilo High and PAC Hawaii football teams at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was an altar server. Service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at the family home, 15-1670 14th Ave., Keaau. All-night vigil to follow. Visitation 8:30-9:25 a.m. Friday (Feb. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial noon at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Casual attire. Survived by, parents, Wilfred “Waion” Prens and Achunsion Mwarey; brothers, Stan S. Ignacio “Chapo” Padilla Jr., 77, of Mountain View died Jan. 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Albuquerque, N.M., he was a retired U.S. Postal Service mail handler, retired U.S. Navy Vietnam-era radioman and member of Grace Believers. No services. Survived by wife, Cyrilla “Cissy” Padilla; daughters, Donna, Yvonne, Racella Park and Lyndanell Park; sons, Robert E. Lee, Walter Park and Frank Park; sisters, Ora Roybal and Gloria. Alan Kiyoto Shiraishi, 82, of Hilo died Dec. 30 at home. Born in Olaa, he was a retired meat cutter for Hilo Medical Center and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Hilo Medical Center Retiree Golf Club, HGEA Golf Club, Fairway Subdivision Kumiai and East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai. Clayton Koji Yugawa, 71, of Hilo died Jan. 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a former director of Data Systems for the County of Hawaii, worked at the former GTE Hawaiian Tel, U.S. Army veteran and was involved with Big Island Junior Achievement.
