The U.S. Coast Guard and Hawaii Fire Department on Tuesday cleared Young Brothers to resume operations at the Port of Hilo.

The state’s only interisland ocean cargo company notified its customers on Monday its Hilo facilities were closed “until further notice” because of a “maltunction in our facilities’ fire suppresssion system.”

According to the state Department of Transportation, the Coast Guard and HFD accepted a plan submitted by DOT to implement temporary measures to address the malfunction.

YB said the port will open early at 6:30 a.m. today.

Cargo acceptance and pick-up availability for sailings to and from the Port of Hilo will return to its normal schedule for the remainder of the week.
