Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra presents its 2023-24 season-opening MasterWorks concert, “Rich &Deep,” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea.

Conducted by KPO Artistic Director and Conductor Brian Dollinger, the orchestra will present works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Richard Wagner and Antonio Salieri.

“Our first performance, entitled ‘Rich and Deep,’ came to mind as a way to showcase musicians in the philharmonic while showing off the rich sounds and depth of the variety of repertoire we get to play year in and year out,” Dollinger said in a press release.

Mozart’s “Symphony No. 40” is an iconic work of art. The symphony is one of his most renowned compositions in the symphonic genre and showcases Mozart’s mastery of composition.

Wagner’s “Siegfried Idyll” was initially a birthday gift to his wife. Its tender composition has inspired many composers, and it is a beloved piece of music in the classical repertoire.

Antonio Salieri’s “Symphony No. 1” showcases his early genius. This work’s melodies and structure offer an early glimpse into the mind of a talented composer, whose first symphony stands as a bridge between the Baroque and Classical eras.

“Over 400 years of compositions exists full of music from which an orchestra can perform. From incredibly large-scale productions to very intimate instrumentations, there are so many different combinations,” Dollinger said. “I feel this concert does nice job of juxtaposing the two, and hope our audience enjoys the ride.”

Tickets for “Rich &Deep” are $76, $66, $46 and $22. They may be purchased online at kamuelaphil.org or by calling the Kahilu Theatre Box Office at (808) 885-6868 or by visiting the Box Office in person from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at 67-1186 Lindsey Road, Waimea.
