U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda (D-Hawaii) will be in Hilo today for her first “Tokuda in Your Town” event to help constituents navigate the federal government and its agencies.

Tokuda and staff will be at the Hilo Public Library from noon. to 3 p.m. to answer questions, field concerns and “take direct and appropriate action,” according to a press release from her office.

“Navigating the federal government and its agencies can be difficult and time consuming. … From passport issues, IRS, immigration, Social Security benefits, veteran’s benefits, and more — we are here to help,” Tokuda said in the press release.

”Constituents can submit support requests online using my website, but I want to make sure that we’re serving all of our ohana — especially those who just have questions, might not have access to the internet, or are unsure if they qualify for support,” she said. “While we cannot guarantee a favorable outcome, we will do our best to … ensure a fair and timely response to the issue or connect them with the relevant state and local authorities.”
