Police have charged a 21-year-old Captain Cook man with first-degree robbery Wednesday in connection with an incident at a retail establishment in Ocean View.

Derick Camacho was also charged with two counts of kidnapping, second-degree burglary, second-degree theft and attempted unauthorized control of a stolen vehicle.

At about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to an active burglary at a business in the 92-8000 block of Mamalahoa Highway in Ocean View. While investigating, officers were alerted to a second active burglary occurring at a nearby retail establishment.

According to police, officers entered the second business and discovered Camacho, who was masked, making verbal threats and physically dragging a 61-year-old man into a back room.

When Camacho refused to comply with officer’s orders to release the victim, an officer tased Camacho, who was subsequently taken into police custody, police said.

Camacho, whose bail was set at $36,000, made his initial appearance Monday in Kona District Court.
