Hilo Trollers announces fishing tournaments for 2023

Hilo Trollers will hold its first offshore fishing Tournament of the 2023 season on Sunday June 11th, weather permitting.

Membership, entry forms, and the updated tournament rules are available at S. Tokunaga Store. Membership and entry forms for the tournament must be turned in to to Tokunaga Store by 4:00 p.m. or dropped off at the Trollers’ tent at the ramp between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 9th.

If Small Craft advisories are posted after the 3:30-4:00 p.m. Coastal Marine Forecast for Big Island Windward Waters, the tournament will be cancelled.

The Trollers welcome new captains and boats to join in friendly fishing competition.

The July Tournament will be an open Jackpot Tournament to honor the late Allan K. Okuda and it is managed by the Trollers but fish landed will not count toward Trollers’ year end awards.

Trollers will ask for fish donations to be given to the HCC Culinary Arts Program so that students can learn to process whole fish to be donated to needy families.

The August Trollers Tournament is scheduled for Sunday Aug. 6, and the two-day Labor Day tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 2 and 3. Weigh-in begins at Suisan around 2:00 p.m. for each tournament.
