The Exchange Club of Hilo next month will host its 28th annual prayer breakfast with Mayor Mitch Roth.

On Thursday, June 8, the community is invited to come together for prayers and breakfast at the Hilo Muni Golf Course Fairway Grill.

Daniel Kawaha of Haili Church and Chaplain Renee Godoy will be offering the prayers this year. There will also be hula performed by Patty Terada and a Humanitarian Award presentation by Jerry Chang. Roth will be the guest speaker.

The prayer breakfast is an interfaith event where everyone is welcomed to join, according to chairman Frank Lafita.

The event started in 1993 when Mayor Stephen Yamashiro united with religious leaders to organize the interfaith prayer breakfast and bring the community together.

According to Lafita, the Exchange Club of Hilo is working to make sure the community is a better place through programs of service in Americanism, community service, youth activities and its national project, the prevention of child abuse.

The event costs $20, which will include the buffet breakfast. For more information and tickets, contact Lafita at (808) 987-9382. Tickets also will be available at the door.
