Lillian Jean Abrams, 69, of Hilo died April 21 at home. Born in Dodge City, Kan., she was a retired dental consultant and member of Retired Seniors Volunteer Program. Private services. Survived by son, Adam Rodriguez of Hilo; daughter, Olivia Trust of Hilo; three grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

John Armin Thrasher, 80, of Pahoa died May 1 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in McAlester, Okla., he was a retired director of bands at Glendale Community College in Arizona, taught in the public schools in Prescott, Ariz., and Phoenix, founder of the Arizona Winds Concert Band and the Play It Again Band that performed in the Fiesta Bowl Parade, past president of the College Band Directors National Association Western Division and was a well-known clinician and conductor. Private services. No flowers. Memorial donations to Music for Life Foundation, Arizona Winds Concert Band and/or Music Will. Survived by wife, Jackie Thrasher of Pahoa; daughter, Jessica Thrasher of San Francisco; son, Jason Thrasher of Vancouver, Wash. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Amie A. Yap, 99, of Longmont, Colo., formerly of Hilo, died April 19 at home. Born in Waiohinu, she was a retired administrative assistant for various private, city, state, and federal entities, worked in her family’s restaurant in Hilo, served as a civilian support member to the U.S. Navy and in the Signal Corps during WWII, worked at the Hilo Community Chest, the American Red Cross, as a member of the clerical staff for a local attorney, and as support for staff at the state Department of Agriculture. Committal services noon Tuesday (May 16) at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 pavilion. Casual attire. Survived by son, Francis (Theresa) Yap Jr. of Longmont, Colo.; daughter, Jennifer Everett of Oregon; sisters, Lily Chow and Jennie Aki of Hilo; brother, Wallace (Shirley) Aki of Hilo and William (Betty) Aki of Florida; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
