A 25-year-old Mountain View man, Cohlby R.K. Espaniola, was sentenced earlier this month in Hilo Circuit Court to a 20-year prison term for first-degree robbery and first-degree assault, according to county Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen.

Espaniola pleaded guilty in December to the charges, which stemmed from an Oct. 14, 2018, incident at a Leilani Street residence in Hilo, where a male victim sustained multiple stab wounds.

“Hawaii Island residents deserve to feel safe in their homes and community,” said Waltjen. “Our Office will continue its ongoing efforts to hold violent offenders accountable for their actions. I’d also like to recognize the selfless actions of the community members who rendered aid to the victim and the hard work and diligence of the police officers who responded and investigated this case.”
