Stephanie Jean Castillo, 74, of Hilo, formerly of Kauai, died March 8 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a journalist for USA Today and the former Honolulu Star-Bulletin and independent filmmaker who won an Emmy for her 1992 documentary, Simple Courage: An Historical Portrait for the Age of AIDS.
