David Caesar Kanuha Bush Sr., 81, of Pearl City, Oahu, died Dec. 2 at home. Born in Kealakekua, he was a retired heavy equipment operator. Daniel Curtis Kama, 85, of Hilo died Nov. 20 in Hilo. Born in Honolulu, he was retired from the state Department of Public Safety, a Kaimuki High School graduate, U.S. Air Force and Army National Guard veteran, avid golfer, community volunteer and founder of the annual Hilo Veteran’s Day Parade. Services noon Tuesday, Feb. 28, at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Survived by wife, Renee Katherine Kama; son, Kirk Kama; sisters, Darlene Medeiros and Leila Tam Alu; grandchildren.

Hanako H. Kuwaye, 101, of Hilo died Dec. 27 at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Papaaloa, she was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai, Hui Okinawa and Kanoelani Association. The Rev. Junji “Jay” Suginohara, 72, of Osaka, Japan, formerly of Hilo, died Jan. 31 at Higashi Sumiyoshi Nursing home in Osaka. Born in Fukuoka, Japan, he was a longtime Buddhist minister in Hawaii for Haleiwa Jodo Mission, Kahului Jodo Mission and Hilo Meishoin temples. Funeral services were held Feb. 6 and Feb. 7 at Komyou-ji temple in Osaka. Survived by wife, Tomoko Suginohara of Osaka; sister, Yasuko (Shuntetsu) Haraguchi of Goto, Japan; brother, The Rev. Shunko (Kazuko) Suginohara of Fukuoka; sons, David (Jessica Garakian) Suginohara of Waimea and The Rev. Edward Yuzuru Toriano, 92, of Hilo died Jan. 10 at home. Born in Pahala, he was a retired diesel mechanics instructor at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, member of Naalehu Hongwanji Mission and U.S. Army veteran.
