Manuel “Manny” Bega Sr., 93, of Keaau died Dec. 13 at a private care home. Born in Wailuku, Maui, he was a retired custodian for Pahoa High and Intermediate School. No services. Survived by sons, Manuel (Sally) Bega Jr., David (Ginny) Bega, Paul (Lisa) Bega and Charles (Kwynn) Bega; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Susan Pamela Kidder, 69, of Kealakekua died Jan. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Canton, Ohio, she was a cashier at the former Kamigaki Market and member of the Kona Choral Society and assisted at Christ Church Episcopal. Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at Queen Emma Community Center, Christ Church Episcopal in Kealakekua. Survived by son, David (Leinee) Kidder of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Penny Kidder of North Canton, Ohio, Mary (Rick) Lloyd of Massillon, Ohio, and Polly (Ren) Patterson of Mount Vernon, Ohio; sister-in-law, Marty Kidder of Massillon, Ohio; two grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews and 17 grandnieces and grandnephews; 11 cousins. Carmelita “Dutchie” Kina‘u Kapu Saffery, 83, of Mountain View died Feb. 3 at home. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired florist and former executive secretary to the late U.S. Sen. Hiram Fong.
