Earl Kainoa Kanae, 75, of Hilo died Dec. 19, 2022 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a heavy equipment operator for Jas W Glover, bus driver for Akita Enterprises and member of Makamaka‘ola Motorcycle Club, Ke Kilo hana o ka Malamalama, American Legion and U.S. Army Veteran. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at Ballard Family Mortuary. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow at 441 Keonaona St. in Hilo. Survived by spouse, Bertha L.P. Pauline Hideko Kaya Sakai, 81, of Hilo died Dec. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Honolulu, she was retired from Waiakeawaena Elementary School. Private services held. Emma Gabriel Simeon, 83, of Keaau died Dec. 24 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Buguey, Cagayan, Philippines; she was a retired elementary school teacher in the Philippines and a retired factory worker for the former Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut, loved sewing, reading medical articles and magazines, and watching educational shows and documentaries. Visitation 8:30-9:30 Thursday (Jan. 5) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section.
