The Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is asking the public to participate in a survey.

Over the past year, office staff have met with community groups, government leaders, law enforcement officials and members of the public about their concerns and interests regarding the criminal justice system.

The office has prepared a legislative initiatives survey regarding issues such as seeking harsher penalties and accountability for domestic abuse, fentanyl possession, drug distribution resulting in serious injury or death, felons in possession of firearms and driving under the influence; encouraging the construction of a new correctional facility on Hawaii Island; increasing funding for substance abuse and mental health treatment providers; and to obtain data for the proposal of future legislative measures that address crime in the community.

“We ask that you participate in this survey to ensure that our community’s views are properly represented, bring attention and encourage our lawmakers to address critical criminal justice system concerns, and prioritize the safety and well-being of our people on Hawaii Island,” the stated a press release from the office.
