Marcelino Marquez Babas Sr., 91, of Pepeekeo died Dec. 2 at home. Born in Laoac, Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a core sampler for the former Hilo Coast Processing Co. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Friday (Dec. 16) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 6 p.m. Graveside service 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at Alae Cemetery, Section L, Row I, Plot 5. Casual attire. Annique Ha’aheo Tsuru Daquep, 21, of Honolulu died Oct. 16 on Oahu. Born in Hilo, she was a second-grade teacher at Waikele Elementary School. Visitation 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 17) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by mother, Royanne Shiigi of Hilo; father, Doroteo “Teo” Daquep of Pepeekeo; maternal grandparents, David and Sherlette Shiigi of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Evalyn “Eva” Daquep of Pepeekeo; cousins, aunts and uncles. Hiromi Howard Horiuchi, 81, of Keaau died on Nov. 25 at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paia, Maui, he was a retired Forestry Supervisor for the State of Hawaii Department of Land &Natural Resources, avid hunter and fisherman, member of the Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Visitation from 9–10 a.m. Saturday (December 17, 2022) at Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission; memorial service will begin at 10. Casual attire. Survived by children, Derrick (Janel) Horiuchi of Mililani, Kyle (Crystal) Horiuchi of Washington, Karen Horiuchi of San Francisco, California; sister, Rachael (Peter) Guay of Honolulu; five grandchildren. Edith “Edie” Leinaala Kanakaole, 90, of Hilo died Nov. 27 in Hilo. Born in Hilo, she was a retired public school teacher in Salt Lake City, 1950, 1959 graduate of Church College of Hawaii (now Brigham Young University-Hawaii), member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Salt Lake City and Keaau, bowler, pool player, golf enthusiast football fanatic and master bartender. Celebration of life/memorial services at a later date. Survived by daughter, Maurine Lupua Yamamoto of Hawaii; sisters, Pualani Kanakaole-Kanahele and Nalani (Sig) Kanakaole-Zane of Hawaii; two grandsons and a granddaughter, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Patricia Ann Kalaniokahaunani Solomon, 69, of Kapaau, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at home. She was born on December 16, 1952 in North Kohala, Hawaii. She worked for Kohala Middle School Security and Kohala Surety. She was a member of Kohala Hawaiian Civic Club; Na Kalai Wa’a; Kawaihae Canoe Club; Hawaiian Island Land Trust; Ke Kuahiwi A Me Ke Moana Hunting Club; Protect Pololu; Friends of Keokea; Friends of Mahukona; and Kupuna Board Member of Malama Pono. A Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 18, 2022) at 52-128 Keokea Park Road, Kapaau, Hawaii 96755. She is survived by, daughters, Hinano Lewis, Ahja (Kaipo) Sproat and Haunani (Mike) Kua; son, Kaawalani (Jamie) Solomon; sister-in-law, Momi Wakita; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
