Elsie J. Carvalho, 92, of Hilo died Oct. 24 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Honomu, she was a retired factory worker for Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co. and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 8-9 a.m. Monday (Nov. 21) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Graveside service noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 Pavilion. Survived by daughters, Lela (Lester) Oliveira of Hilo, Yvonne Leithead of Las Vegas, Regina (Kalei) Wery of Juneau, Alaska, and Cynthia Carvalho of Kona; sons, Steven (Cleofe) Carvalho of Kona and Dwight (Kanani) Carvalho Sr. of Hilo; sister, Wilma (Tyron) Revilla of Honomu; sister in-law, Betty Rapoza of Paauilo; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Wayne Gilbert De Motta, 65, of Hilo died Sept. 7, 2020, at Hilo Medical Center. He was a retired Hawaii County paramedic, employee of the former Hilo Coast Processing Co., Honomu Judo Club black belt, member of Keaukaha Canoe Club, Hawaii Firefighters Association, fisherman and hunter. Edna Tamae Kitagawachi, 88, of Captain Cook died Oct. 9 at home. Born in Kumamoto Ken, Japan, she was a pantry worker for the former Kona Lagoon and Keauhou Beach hotels, coffee farmer and member of Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. Roxana Mutsuko Uchima, 65, of Hilo died Oct. 24 at home. Born in Los Angeles, she was co-owner of Affordable Catering and Okazuya, a pharmacy technician for Longs Drugs and member of Church of the Holy Cross in Hilo. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by husband, Lester Uchima of Hilo; son, Domonick Sean (Jolene Velez) Uchima of Keaau; daughter, Kristen Marie (Jacob) Doolittle of Hilo; brother, Glenn Muramoto of Las Vegas; brother-in-law, Edward Wallace of California; six grandchildren; uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
