Dr. John Pierre Charlot, 81, of Mountain View died Oct. 18 at a private care home in Hilo. He was an emeritus professor of Hawaiian and Polynesian religion at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Private services held. Survived by son, David (Denise) Charlot of New Hampshire; daughter, Priscilla Charlot of North Carolina; brother, Martin Charlot of Pahoa; sister, Anne Charlot of Florida; four grandchildren. Albert Kanehekili Kahoopii Sr., 85, of Kapaau died Nov. 2 at home. Born in Kohala, he was a retired housemen for Mauna Lani Bay Resort. Graveside service 10 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 13) at Hawi County Cemetery. Survived by sons, Albert (Anne) Kahoopii Jr., Dale (Jadelyn) Hoopai, Matthew Kahoopii and Sheldon Kahoopii of Hawaii; brothers, Noah Kahoopii and Neisha (Janet) Kahoopii of Hawaii; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. George Michael Lawler, 80, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 9 at home. Born in Santa Monica, Calif., he was the owner of ARC Roofing Company. Services at a later date. Paul K. Mercado, 80, of Hilo died Oct. 3 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired musician and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Lynn Leiko Namihira, 75, of Hilo died Sept. 25 at home. Born in Amauulu Camp 1 in Hilo, she was a retired secretary for the University of Hawaii at Hilo Baccalaureate Nursing Program and member of Fukushima Kenjin Kai, Hui Okinawa and Hui O Wahine Hawaii Family and Community Education Club. Joseph Dias Souza III, 68, of Hilo died Sept. 3 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Bernardino, Calif., he was a retired construction mason and member of Hawaii Laborers Union. No viewing or service at this time as his body was donated for research to the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
