Police say a thief or thieves stole valuable items from motor vehicles on Oct. 5 at two West Hawaii beach parks.
At about 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot of Kiholo Bay for a reported car break-in. The officers determined a parked, unattended rental vehicle had been broken into. Items including high-priced electronics were allegedly taken. The victims were visitors from out-of-state.
In another incident at about 6:30 p.m at Kua Bay, a Canadian couple told officers a local man wearing a face covering accosted the 31-year-old woman in their rental car, demanding she get out of the vehicle.
When the woman, who was alone in the car, didn’t comply, the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and took the woman’s husband’s cellphone from the car and fled. The woman was not injured.
Police think that in both incidents, the suspect or suspects were in a white, older-model Toyota extra cab pickup truck with no tailgate. The license plate of the truck is unknown.
