People have two more days to submit comments on whether the federal government should provide funding for the Thirty Meter Telescope.

Last month, the NSF held a series of public scoping meetings to determine the outline for an eventual environmental assessment for TMT, as a prelude for potential federal investment in the process.

The meetings generated substantial public engagement — most of it negative — but the NSF also encouraged members of the public to submit testimony online.

The deadline to submit that testimony was Saturday, Sept. 17.

But, because that deadline fell on a weekend, the deadline has been pushed back until the end of Monday, Sept. 19.

People can submit comments and read the NSF’s Notice of Intent and Draft Community Engagement Plan at beta.nsf.gov/tmt.
