During the week of Sept. 5-11, Hawaii Island police arrested 12 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic collision. Two of the drivers were younger than 21.
he numbers of arrests by district were: Puna, four; Kona and South Hilo, three each; Hamakua and North Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 697 DUI arrests compared to 755 during the same period last year, a decrease of 7.7%.
There have been 571 major accidents so far this year compared to 554 during the same period last year, an increase of 3.1%.
To date, there have been 26 official traffic fatalities compared to 16 for the same time last year, an increase of 62.5%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
