Dennis Gerard Brown, 81, of Kailua-Kona died July 23 at home. Born in California, he was a retired assistant county administrator for Marin County, California, served in Iran in the Peace Corps in the 1960’s, worked for the federal government in the CETA program and other positions for Marin County. He was a parishioner of St. James’ Episcopal Church. Celebration of life at a later date. No flowers; memorial donations to St. James’ Episcopal Church in Waimea or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Michael James Cody, 55, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 24 at home. Born in Milford, Conn., he was a drywall installer/finisher. Services at a later date. James Curtis Daniel Jr., 66, of Captain Cook died Aug. 19 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Ruston, La., he was a high steel tower painter and sandblaster. Services at a later date. Juanita “Kehukai Kehu” Konanui, 79, Keaukaha died Aug. 8 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kalapana, she worked for the Department of Education Kupuna Program and Kamaiaina Kids A+ Program and the county’s Keaukaha Kawananakoa Summer Program, a member of Ke Ola Pono No Na Kupuna and Hale No Na Ali‘i, former dancer for Halau O Kekuhi and Halau Hula ‘O Kahikilaulani and Leo Naheaahe O Pahae Kealoha. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 10) at Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Edna May Sick, 98, of Captain Cook​ died Aug. 23 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a telephone operator for AT&T Long Lines and New York Telephone Co., and worked in the library at State University of New York at Stony Brook. Services held at St. Benedict’s R.C. Church in Honaunau. Survived by sons, Gerard (Erica) Sick of Captain Cook and Robert (Marlayne) Sick of Monroe, N.Y.; daughters, Judy (Thomas) Miller of Red Hook, N.Y., and Kathy (Stephen) Buthmann of Riverhead, N.Y.; brother, Donald (Linda) Barry of The Villages, Fla.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Sachiko Yamamoto, 88, of Hilo died Aug. 27 at home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired licensed practical nurse for the former Hilo Hospital and member of Hilo Higashi Hongwanji Mission and Hilo Hospital Retirees.
