A 65-year-old Southern California man is charged with attempted second-degree murder for a domestic stabbing incident in a Waikoloa Beach Drive hotel.

Richard Lopez of San Pedro is also charged with first- and second-degree assault, plus domestic abuse.

According to police, officers responded to a reported stabbing in a guest room at 9:17 p.m. Thursday.

The woman victim had numerous injuries, as did Lopez, police said. Both were taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital for medical treatment.

The woman remained hospitalized as of Sunday morning.

Lopez was released from the hospital Friday morning and taken to Kealakehe Police Station where he remains in custody in lieu of $300,000 bail.

His initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday in Kona District Court.
