Hanai Ministries has assembled and distributed 100 backpacks full of school supplies for low-income children in the Laupahoehoe and Ka‘u schools.

The backpacks and supplies were purchased with funds donated by local people and assembled and distributed by Hanai Ministries volunteers. Founded in 2018, Hanai Ministries is dedicated to expanding and improving foster care and adoption resources for children on Hawaii Island, as well as assisting low-income families and children.

The Backpack Campaign is one of several projects of Hanai Ministries that help local families.

Other projects include: The Keiki Kloset, which provides free children’s clothing, toys and furniture for families; The Hanai Angel Tree Christmas gift collection for foster children; Easter Baskets for foster kids; and recreational activities for children in foster care.

Hanai Ministries’ particular emphasis is on expanding the participation of local churches in fostering and adoption.

The organization recently launched the Adopt an Ohana Program through which members of a local church develop and provide a range of specific services for particular foster families.

The organization is also developing the Hale Leialoha Program which will establish foster homes for children with special needs and provide specialized training and wrap-around services.
