Two new Hawaii Island deaths from COVID-19 were reported this week by the state Department of Health.

Both deaths were of women in the 60-69 age group, with one having been hospitalized with an underlying condition.

For Hawaii County, the total number of new cases dropped again, from 338 total cases last week to 282 new cases this week.

The statewide case count dropped as well, from 2,696 new cases last week to 2,219 new cases this week.

Over the past 14-day period, Hilo’s 96720 ZIP code reported 195 new COVID cases.

Throughout the pandemic, Hawaii Island has reported 37,716 COVID cases and 210 total deaths, according to DOH data.

Due to an increase in at-home testing options, accurate case counts are likely much higher than reported by the DOH.
