Lisiate “Richard” Kaufusi Apina, 64, of Kailua-Kona died July 25 at home. Born in Nukunuku, Tongatapu, Tonga, he was an electrician for Lindo Electric and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Kealakekua/Keei Ward. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Beverly Apina of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Nanea Mangauil of Kailua-Kona; sons, Christopher Apina and Seichi Apina, all of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Paea (Pele) Apina, Ului (Siosi) Apina, all of Mesa, AZ., Salesi (Angie) Apina of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Sela (Ahofono) Aholelei of Kailua-Kona, Moli (Maea) Mafi of San Francisco, CA., Lute (Tauga) Lelenoa of Sydney, Australia and Ana (Losipini) Tafisi of Ocean View; granddaughter, Laila P Manguail; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Wally Kazuto Ichishita, 107, of Kailua-Kona died June 18 at home. Born in Keopu, he was the retired owner of Kona Laundry and Dry Cleaning and a member of Kona Rotary Club, Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Sei Cho No Ie and Keopu Citizens Club. Private services held. Survived by sons, Shayne (Joyce) Ichishita, Reed (Gloria) Ichishita, Kevin Ichishita, Wynn Ichishita and Jeffrey Ichishita of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Marie (Alan) Nakata of Honolulu; sister, Janet Sunada of Kailua-Kona; sisters-in-law, Fujie Ichishita and Rose Onaka of Kailua-Kona; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews. Steven “Baba” Keliilani Mahelona Jr., 40, of Kailua-Kona died May 17 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a pipe fitting contractor, owner of Fire Protection Hawaii LLC and past member of Tui Tonga Canoe Club. Celebration of life 1-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, at West Hawaii Community Center/Laiopua 2022 lanai. Scattering of ashes 8 a.m. Monday (Sept. 5) at Honokohau Harbor. Survived by wife, Caitlan Mahelona of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Aurelia Mahelona, Ruby Mahelona and Olivia Mahelona of Kailua-Kona; parents, Steven and Laurie Mahelona Sr. of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Ryan Mahelona of Arizona and Samuel Mahelona of California; sisters, Stephanie (Kyle) Araki and Brittney Mahelona of Kailua-Kona; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Matthew Louis Malaka, 81, of Hilo, died July 7 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Elnora, Alberta, Canada, he was a retired carpenter and member of Big Island Church of Christ and former member of Big Island Woodturners Association. Private services held. Survived by daughters, Charlene (Glenn) Fernandez of Hilo and Sherie (Benjamin) McMillan of Mountain View; brothers, Sylvester (Linda) Malaka, Paul (Betty) Malaka, Stephen Malaka, Frank Malaka, David Malaka and Dan (Emily) Malaka; sisters, Mary Kerr, Gloria Malaka, Helen (Ron) LeBlanc and June (John) Field; four grandchildren. Edwin William Nobriga Sr., 89, of Kawanui died July 26 at home. Born in Honolulu and raised in Hilo, he was a rancher, retired Hawaii County Police Department district commander, attended the University of Hawaii and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Korean War and graduated from the FBI Academy.
