Police say a Hawaiian Paradise Park woman died Monday night in what appears to be a bizarre automobile mishap.

Officers responded to a 6:43 p.m. report to find the woman pinned between her car, a Chevy Malibu, and the gate post to her home in the area of 23rd Avenue and Paradise Drive.

The woman was transported to Hilo Medical Center where she was pronounced dead at 10:59 p.m.

Her identity is being withheld until the next of kin is located and notified.

The East Hawaii Traffic Enforcement Unit have initiated a coroner’s inquest investigation and although no foul play is suspected at this time, they will continue to examine the evidence and facts relative to any additional contributing factors to this incident.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Witnesses are asked to contact Officer Blayne Matsui at (808) 961-2339 or Blayne.Matsui@HawaiiCounty.gov. Those who prefer to anonymity may call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
