During the week of July 11-17, Hawaii Island police arrested 18 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Five were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: South Hilo, seven; Kona; six, Puna, three; and South Kohala, two.
So far this year, there have been 562 DUI arrests compared to 636 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11.6%.
There have been 424 major accidents so far this year compared to 422 during the same period last year, an increase of 0.47%.
To date, there have been 22 official traffic fatalities compared to 13 fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 69.2%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
