Born in Ookala; he was a retired county deputy fire chief, county housing inspector, county Civil Defense Commissioner, instructor at Hawaii Community College, retired U.S. Army veteran and member of Hawaii Fire Chiefs Association, Akaka Falls Lions Club and Young Men’s Institute in Hawaii. William “Bill” Derasin, 88, of Naalehu died June 8 at home. Born in Pahoa, he was a welding professor at University of Hawaii at Hilo and retired owner of 3D Welding and B&E Propane.
