Lane closures, detours slated around Hilo area

From today through Saturday, the Hawaii County Department of Public Works will be closing several lanes and creating detours at 10 locations throughout the Hilo area.

Closures will take place for maintenance and engineering, along with painting and maintaining pavement markings.

Construction projects will take place at:

• Kalanianaole Avenue from Kamehameha/Railroad Avenue to Kauhane Avenue for 24 hours a day

• Kilauea Avenue from Wailoa Bridge to Puainako Street from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Waianuenue Avenue from Kaiulani Street to Rainbow Drive from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Old Mamalahoa Highway across Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Kaahakini Bridge for 24 hours each day

• Kolekole Bridge for 24 hours each day

• Makea Bridge will temporarily open at Kaupakuea Homestead Road, north of Andrade Road for 24 hours a day

Highway maintenance and paving will take place at:

• Kaumana Drive between Country Club and Kuakolu Place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Old Mamalahoa Highway between Leopolino Road and Kauniho Road from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Kauniho Road from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Thursday and Friday, maintaining pavement markings will take place on:

• Wainaku Street from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Haaheo Road from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
