Brother Noland and Tavana headline a special summertime concert Saturday at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel produced by Hawaii Stars.

Both artists are coming to Hilo after performing last weekend with Henry Kapono at the Waikiki Shell. The event also features a VIP after-party with music provided by Hoku Award-winning blues guitarist Larry Dupio.

Known as the father of “Jawaiian Music,” Brother Noland brings his eclectic blend of “Hawaiian soul music” back to Hilo after a five-year absence.

Accompanying Brother Noland will be original Pacific Bad Boys bassist Kata Maduli, Maui’s own Wilson Kanakaole on guitar, and Big Island drummer Steve Bader. Tavana will showcase his unique style of simultaneously playing multiple instruments while singing and accompanying himself on drums. Both artists also will perform together at the concert.

A portion of the proceeds of this event will benefit the Hawaii Island Veteran’s Memorial Inc., which continues to develop its complex of affordable senior housing and medical services on Kawili Street near UH-Hilo.

Ground-breaking for the $45 million housing component is planned for the end of the year.

The Hawaii Island Veterans Memorial Inc. also will use the proceeds to promote its signature fundraising event, the East Hawaii Jazz &Blues Festival, which will resume this fall after a two-year pause due to COVID-19. The 10th annual festival is scheduled for Oct. 30 to Nov. 4 and is being sponsored by US Renal Care, EAH Housing and hosted by the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.

Saturday’s concert is part of a series of events leading up to the festival.

Tickets are $35 for general admission and $60 for VIP. They can be purchased at HawaiiStars.com.

A limited amount of tickets will be available at the door.
