The U.S. Army Garrison Pohakuloa Training Area will be upgrading and testing its mass-warning notification system from June 28-30.
Existing sirens will be modified, and in some areas, new sirens will be installed. As a part of the upgrade, all sirens at PTA will be tested.
Employees, neighbors and community members near PTA may hear the sirens and prerecorded voice messages during the testing period, including motorists on Daniel K. Inouye Highway (aka Saddle Road) and visitors at Gilbert Kahele State Park.
The entire test will take approximately five minutes per siren, and the tests will take place between 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on June 29 and June 30.
These upgrades and testing will benefit the larger community in the event of an actual emergency, according to the Army.
