Total COVID cases drop again for state, Hawaii County

COVID-19 cases continue their downward decline throughout the state and Hawaii County.

According to Department of Health data, there were 7,199 new COVID cases reported statewide over the past seven days, 834 less than the 8,033 reported last week. For Hawaii County, there were 803 new cases, a drop of 38 cases from the week prior.

Nine new deaths were reported statewide, one more than the previous week. None were reported for Hawaii County.

The new statewide active case count for the past 14 days dropped again as well, from 15,282 to 13,974 this week.

This week’s data also reported a drop in the state’s average positivity rate, listed at 18.9% this week as opposed to 19.2% last week.

The seven-day average case counts for Hawaii County remained the same this week at 117, while the statewide seven-day average dropped from 1,085 to 976.

For Hilo’s 96720 ZIP code, there have been 540 new cases reported over the last 14-day period, a decline of 36 cases from the week prior.

A majority of new cases reported over the past seven days have occurred in the 18-44 years of age category, while trends continue downward for all age groups throughout the state.

The death toll for the state is now listed at 1,435 individuals. Hawaii County’s death toll remains at 193.
