PREVIOUSLY:

Police are seeking information on a 58-year-old South Kohala woman who was last seen Sept. 26 departing on a flight to her native China at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole.

Xiuhua Shi is described as Chinese, 5-feet-4-inches tall, with a slender build, black hair and black eyes.

Police Sgt. Christopher Jelsma of South Kohala Patrol said Shi’s husband recently contacted police saying his wife didn’t return home. She was last heard from on Nov. 26.

“She just hasn’t been in touch. She was visiting family and it’s uncommon for them not to communicate daily,” Jelsma said. “And when she was expected back, around February, she (didn’t) come back. When she didn’t come back, he was unable to reach her or any other family there.”

Jelsma said the woman didn’t have a ticket for a return flight.

“She was expected back but there was no particular date,” Jelsma said. “She went there frequently … and she was expected back after — from what I understand — Chinese New Year.

Jelsma said police don’t have information to lead them to suspect foul play in the woman’s disappearance.

“I’m concerned about any missing person. Under the circumstances, it’s unusual …,” he said.

Police request that anyone with information on Shi’s whereabouts to call the police department’s nonemergency line at (808) 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300. Crime Stoppers is a volunteer program run by ordinary citizens who want to keep their community safe.
