Kukoa Dominic Ushi Carbone, infant, of Hilo died May 25 at Hilo Medical Center. He was also born in Hilo. Memorial visitation 4-6 p.m. Tuesday (June 7) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Casual attire. Edwin Toyozo Hayashi, 84, of Hilo died April 10 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired professor at Hawaii Community College and Hawaii Army National Guard veteran. Drive-thru visitation 2:30-4:30 p.m. Thursday (June 9) at Dodo Mortuary upper carport. Private memorial service to follow. Casual attire. James “Jim” Joseph Kowalski, 84, of Pahoa died May 13 at home. Born in Milwaukee, he was a retired math teacher for Hilo High School, an original Big Island soccer coach for AYSO, youth basketball coach for the Police Athletic League, avid golfer and Peace Corps volunteer in Nigeria. He and wife Carrie, were adult group home counselors for Association for Retarded Citizens for many years. Services at a later date. Survived by wife, Carrie Kowalski of Pahoa; sons, Jacob Kowalski of Honolulu and Jason (Donna) Kowalski of Elk Grove, Calif.; two grandchildren. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Rodrigo Oandasan Sadumiano Sr., 77, of Ocean View, Hawaii, died Dec. 9 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a coffee farmer, janitor at the former Kona Surf and Kona Lagoon hotels, landscaper and machine operator for Hawaiian Host. Visitation 9-11 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Honaunau. Mass at 11 a.m. Casual attire. Jose Barrios Valderama, 89, of Hilo died May 9 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kohala, he was retired from Mauna Kea Sugar Co. and a farmer. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Wednesday (June 8) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at 6 p.m. Mass at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (June 9) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima Section. Survived by wife, Lolita T.
