Carol Jean Wence,, of Hilo died April 23 at her daughter’s home in Phoenix, Ariz. Born in Missouri, she moved to Hilo in 1968 and taught in the Hawaii public school system for over 30 years, first at Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School and then at Hilo Union School. She was an artist and a line dancer and raised monarch butterflies. Private services were held. Survived by partner Wayne Wagatsuma, daughters Mary (Richard Pono) Andaya and Leslie (Michael) Harrington; granddaughters Cypress (Justin Darlington) Andaya, Cyrene (Taylor Feato) Andaya and Iceley (Kim) Andaya; grandson Maverick Harrington and sisters Marilyn (Terry) Mumey and Elaine (Gary) Bliss.

Alan Takashi Miyaji, 69, of Hilo, died March 12 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a bus driver, truck driver, driving school instructor, mechanic and served in the Hawaii Army National Guard. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by sister Susan S. Miyaji and brother Ray S. Miyaji, both of Hilo. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Frederick “Freddy” Tavares Perreira, Jr., 74, of Pahoa, died April 19 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a bulldozer operator and a U.S. Army veteran. Visitation to be held May 20 from 9-10 a.m. at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, with burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by sons Fredo (Michelle) Desha, Ashley “Toby” (Anela) Perreira and Ward Dutton; daughter Mary Perreira; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Susana Dela Cruz Agbayani, 82, of Pepeekeo, died April 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in San Juan in the Philippines, she was a retired assistant manager at KFC in Hilo and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Visitation to be held May 23 from 5-6 p.m. at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, with a wake to follow at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue May 24 from 9:15-10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou, with funeral mass to follow at 10 a.m. and burial at Homelani Memorial Park. Masks requested to be worn, casual attire. Survived by sons Tito (Debra) Agbayani, Jr. and Arnold (Lurline) Agbayani, both of Hilo; daughters Aida (Noel) Agustin and Susan (Marlon) Miller, both of Hilo; sisters Leonora Sensano of Pepeekeo, Avelina Agbayani of Honolulu, and Agrifina (Vic) Ignacio of the Philippines; sister-in-law Adriana Agbayani of Hilo; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Fumie Jyo, 94, of Hilo, died Jan. 18 at home. Born in Papaikou, she was a cook and dishwasher at Kawamoto Store, a former janitor at Homelani Memorial Park, a former cook at the University of Hawaii in Hilo, and a member of the East Hawaii Hiroshima Kenjin Kai. Private services held. No koden (monetary donations). Survived by sons Leonald Jyo and Ronald (Sandi) Jyo, both of Kamuela, and Alan (Audrey) Jyo of Keaau; daughters Elaine Kawasaki and Gayle Jyo of Hilo; sister Shirley Gushiken of Honolulu; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Eva Lindsey Kealamakia, 99, of Waimea, died May 13 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Waimea, she was the retired postmistress for the Kamuela Post Office and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Waimea. Visitation to be held May 21 from 10-11:15 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Waimea, with funeral to follow at 11:15 a.m. and burial to follow at the Waimea County Cemetery. Social distancing and masks to be observed, casual attire. Survived by children Ardis (Stewart) Jensen of St. George, Utah, Myron (Debra) Lindsey of Waimea, Moses (Lesley) Kealamakia of Hilo and Mark (April) Kealamakia of Waimea; sister Grace Spencer of Wailuku; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
