Kealakehe High School football players got off the field to pick up trash along Ane Keohokalole Highway Friday afternoon.
About 60 players from the varsity and junior varsity teams walked along the highway picking up trash including a couch and the front bumper and grill of an automobile.
“This is something I always wanted to do with them,” said coach Wyatt Nahale “The restrictions held us back, but the time was perfect now.”
Nahele said he wanted the boys to serve our community and know what it feels like to serve others and put community first.
“We got to step outside of our football field and normal activities and do something different. After we did this 808 Homeless Task Force sponsored pizza and ice cream for the boys afterwards,” said Nahale.
He said he plans on having more clean up days in the future, including along Queen Kaahumanu Highway and where ever trash needs to be picked up.
“It’s important we share this with our young people in our community so they know the importance, that in order for our community to thrive and be healthy that they have to get out and serve the community in a way that is unselfish so the community can prosper,” Nahale said.
