Hilo man accused of sex assault of minor

A 37-year-old Hilo man indicted on six sex assault counts will make his initial appearance today in Hilo Circuit Court.

Ryan Reis is charged with five counts of third-degree sexual assault plus continuous sexual assault of a minor younger than 14.

The most serious offense, continuous sexual assault of a minor younger than 14 is a Class A felony that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, upon conviction. The other five charges are Class C felonies that carry a maximum five-year prison term.

According to court documents, the alleged offenses took place between Aug. 1, 2017, and Oct. 31, 2018.

Reis is in custody in lieu of $100,000 bail.
