Ige releases capital improvement funds for projects statewide

Gov. David Ige on Tuesday announced the release of more than $276 million in February and March for capital improvement projects to be administered by various state departments.

“These investments in communities around the state provide the best and most direct way to drive our economy and create jobs for our people, and they help to improve the daily experience of our residents and those who visit Hawaii,” Ige said in a statement.

Below is a list of funding released for Hawaii Island projects and statewide projects that will benefit the Big Island.

• $1.5 million to finance land, design and construction of the statewide highways safety improvement program, $26.54 million total project cost, various estimated completion dates.

• $400,000 to finance construction costs for the installation of wastewater and water treatment systems statewide, $23.9 million total project cost, estimated completion April 23.

• $500,000 to finance a feasibility and cost study for the construction of a wastewater treatment plant in Pahoa, $600,000 total project cost, estimated completion December 2023.

• $750,000 to design the renovations and improvements to the Keakealani courthouse building in Kona, $13.35 million total project cost, estimated completion October 2024.

• $8.75 million to finance the construction of a 10-million gallon water reservoir for the Lalamilo water system in South Kohala, $31.5 million total project cost, no estimated completion date.

• $25 million to finance additional design and construction funds for various ongoing school construction projects statewide, $25 million total project cost, various estimated completion dates.

• $974,333 in design and construction funds to expand the pharmacy at Kona Community Hospital, $1.759 million total project cost, estimated completion November 2023.

• $2 million to purchase and install equipment for expansion and upgrade of Hawaii Wireless Interoperability Network statewide, $2 million total project cost, estimated completion December 2023.

• $5 million for equipment and installation of public address systems for various schools statewide, $5 million total project cost, various estimated completion dates.

• $4.5 million to fiance construction costs for demolition of structures in the Hilo International Airport west ramp area and subdivision of lease lots, $10.628 million total cost, estimated completion June 2022.
