William “Bill” Marion Atkins, 85, of Pahoa died March 26 at home. He was a retired civil engineer with the county Department of Water Supply. Private services. Survived by wife, Rose Padilla Atkins; stepsons, Michael J Lara and Benjamin Lara Jr.; stepdaughters, JoAnn Lubas and Cheryl Lynn Dureg; sister, Sue (Dick) Hyatt. Johan “Col. Joh” Gestson, 93, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 20, at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Milwaukie, Ore., he was a retired U.S. Marine Corps officer. Memorial services and celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Kathleen Mildred Kalauli, 70, of Pahoa died March 17. She was a retired nurse with Hilo Medical Center and member of several bowling leagues. Celebration of life 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Onekahakaha Beach Park in Keaukaha. Survived by husband, Randy Kalauli Sr.; son, Randy (Raemi) Kalauli Jr. of Honolulu; daughters, Nicole (John) Cardarople of Oxford, Pa., Danielle Dalessio of Orlando, Fla., and DeeDee (Siaifoi) Tui; brother, James (Helen) Connor of Virginia; brother-in-law, Danny (Pam) Kalauli of Pahoa; sisters, Patricia (Rick Cihak) McKee of St. Petersburg, Fla., Michelle (Kenneth) Gore of Pinellas Park, Fla., Regina (Barry) Shangold of Bridgewater, Mass., and Janet (Michael) Fontaine of Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Lillian Nani Kaeha and Keola Kalauli of Hilo, Josephine Momi Kalauli of Honolulu and Winna Kalauli of Arizona, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Sueko Ono, 93, of Hilo died Aug. 4, 2021, at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. She was a retired Safeway cashier and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private services held. Survived by daughter, Jan Kaniho of Hilo; sons, Richard (Cheryline) Ono of Kealakekua-Kona and Ken Ono of Captain Cook, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
