Darcy Christine Alvarado, 60, of Hilo, formerly of Santa Cruz, Calif., died March 1 at Hawaii Care Choice Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in San Jose, Calif., she was a registered nurse, hard-working mother and loyal friend. Survived by mother, Sally Miller; daughter, Talaur Alvarado; sons, Brandon Alvarado and Cameron Alvarado; brothers, Jon Alvarado, Robert (Auriel) Alvarado and Laurance (Lisa) Alvarado; a grandson. Gary Wayne Burris, 69, of Kailua-Kona died March 19 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Santa Maria, Calif., he was a retired cash handler for Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), musician, bassist and member of Bandanna & Coffee and the Larry Norman rock band People, which had a 1968 hit with a cover of the Zombies’ “I Love You.” Private service held. Survived by wife, Nani Naipo-Burris of Kailua Kona; hanai son, Kaui (Charlie) Steffens of California; hanai daughter, Aja (David) Olson of Honolulu; brother, Greg (Brigid) Burris of California; four hanai grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. Agapita Javier Marzan, 88, of Hilo died March 28 at home. Born in Pangasinan, Philippines, she was a homemaker and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday (April 6) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Prayer service at 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Alae Cemetery. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Rodolfo (Jeoly) Marzan of Pepeekeo and Jerry (Racquel) Marzan of Hilo; daughters, Rosalina Malasaga of Hilo, Nora Palm of Garden Grove, Calif., and Shelly Marzan of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Felix (Loli) Javier of Philippines; sisters, Maria Itliong of Philippines and Mercedes (Boy) Jimenez of America Samoa; sister-in-law, Tina Javier of Philippines; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Dr. Alfred S. Tong, 92, formerly of Hilo, died March 6 in Honolulu. He was a dentist in Honolulu and Hilo and U.S. Navy veteran. No local services. Survived by sister, Dr. Norma Tong Dang; a nephew and a grandnephew.

Jeanette Kay Walker, 60, of Waikoloa died Dec. 26, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Weston, Neb., she was a retired registered nurse for North Hawaii Community Hospital and Kona Community Hospital. Private service to be held in Nebraska. Survived by husband, John Walker of Waikoloa; mother, Geraldine Barry of Nebraska; sons, Clinton Walker of Waikoloa and Aaron (Jessica) Walker of California; daughter, Marguerite (Nick) Cunningham of California; brothers, Mark Barry of Illinois and Mike Barry of Nebraska; sister, Deborah Rice of California; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
