The Tribune-Herald owes Poli Olevao a bit of an apology and everyone else a full-fledged correction.

Waiakea High School currently has three openings for head coaches: boys basketball, girls volleyball and cross-country.

Last week it was reported that boys volleyball has an opening, but that’s incorrect. The Warriors have a coach – Olevao. As much was apparent when Waiakea beat Hilo last week in four sets to improve to 3-1.

The Warriors’ only loss is to Kamehameha (4-0), which beat Kealakehe 25-6, 25-5, 25-11 on Saturday to complete the first half of the Division I season. Waiakea and Kamehameha play again Friday in Keaau as the teams work toward the playoffs, which begin April 25 with the semifinals.

One of the best matches of the season came Friday in Division II as Pahoa outlasted Kohala in a five-setter, 25-15, 25-17, 24-26, 15-25, 15-13, running its record to 5-0.

Each team was at its best in the fifth set at the Daggers’ gym, with Pahoa hitting .364 and the Cowboys (1-2) attacking at a .389 clip.

Kailen Kamakeeaina blasted 18 kills with 11 digs for Pahoa, Chris Kaawaloa-Alidon smacked 12 kills and Jheyden Haili posted six kills and nice aces.

La’a Kauka hit .381 to lead the way for Kohala with 11 kills and 13 digs. Kona Ledward and O’shen Cazimero added 10 kills apiece, but the Cowboys hurt themselves with 14 service errors against only six aces. Pahoa had 20 service errors but came up with 17 aces.

The Daggers host fellow unbeaten Konawaena (3-0) on Friday.
