Yukiko “Suzie” Aoki, 94, of Hilo died Feb. 20 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was an assistant to Drs. H.E. Crawford and J.M. Zelko, member of Taishoji Soto Mission and its Yount Buddhist Association and Fujinkai. Private service held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by son, Kent (Guia) Aoki of Hilo; daughter, Pam Deniz of Hilo; sister, Thelma Sato of Hilo; brother, Herbert Sueoka of Arizona; brother-in-law, Junichi Aoki of Papaikou; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Gary W. Bremer, 65, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 23. Born in Pampa, Texas, he was a greeter for The Fish Hopper restaurant, merchandiser for Hallmark, chauffeur for Tony Honda car group, sous chef, owner of Kona Thrift Shop, and minister for churches in California, Texas and Hawaii. Matthew Yuen Pui Chow, 95, of Hilo died March 6 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Hilo High School biology and science teacher, U.S. Army World War II veteran and member of Hilo Seventh-day Adventist Church. Violet Hanayo “Vi” Cook, 85, of Hilo died March 22 at home. Born in Olaa, she was was a retired Realtor, first as an agent for Century 21, then owning and operating Violet Cook Realty, a teacher in Texas and at Laupahoehoe High School and Waiakea Intermediate School, and member of the Hilo Yacht Club, Hawaii Shima Fukuoka Kenjinkai, league tennis player and practitioner of Japanese classical dance, earning the natori certification. Isaiah Kala “Ikepono” Ka‘aihue Jr., 72, of Honolulu died Dec. 6 at The Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Waiohinu, Ka‘u, he was a retired outreach worker for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, master lei maker, Merrie Monarch volunteer festival, 1967 Hilo High School graduate and U.S. Army veteran.
